Cobra Electronics Europe Sponsors Oars of Thunder in the World’s Toughest Row

Cobra Electronics, a leader in innovative and reliable communication solutions, is proud to announce its sponsorship of Oars of Thunder, a team of four courageous rowers—Kim, Nathaniel, Sally, and Harry—who will take on the monumental challenge of the World’s Toughest Row Atlantic. Beginning on the 12th of December 2024, this epic race will see them traverse over 3,000 miles of open ocean, from La Gomera in Spain to Antigua, all in support of charity. Cobra’s advanced marine radios and communication tools will help ensure the team stays connected, even in the most remote and challenging conditions.

A Journey with Purpose

The World’s Toughest Row is no ordinary challenge. Rowing continuously for weeks, battling unpredictable weather and the vastness of the Atlantic, demands both mental and physical resilience. The race unites teams from all walks of life, driven by a desire to conquer the ocean and raise funds for meaningful causes. For Oars of Thunder, this mission involves raising £100K for the RNLI and the charity chosen by their Platinum sponsor.

Essential Tools for Survival

Cobra has equipped the team with communication devices designed to handle the harshest marine environments. Here’s a closer look at the radios that will keep Oars of Thunder connected during their tough row:

  • Cobra MRF77B GPS E: This VHF radio is more than just a communication tool—it’s a true life-saving device. With an integrated GPS receiver, it instantly transmits the exact location of the team in the event of an emergency. The radio also features an instant emergency channel 16/9 and Cobra’s unique Rewind-Say-Again® function, which replays the last 20 seconds of a missed transmission. This ensures that critical instructions or emergency information are never lost in challenging conditions.
  • Cobra MR HH600 FLT GPS BTE: The MR HH600 is a floating handheld VHF radio with built-in GPS functionality. Its ability to transmit exact coordinates and access emergency channels makes it indispensable in the open ocean. Bluetooth® capabilities allow team members to sync their phones, keeping them dry and safe in their waterproof bags, while the built-in flashlight with an emergency strobe ensures they can always be located, even in the darkest moments of their journey.
  • Cobra AM1055 FLT: This versatile floating walkie-talkie is the perfect companion for the team during their land preparations and while on the ocean. The AM1055 FLT offers a max range of over 12 km (7+ miles) and comes pre-charged, ready to use straight out of the box. Its waterproof design (IPX7 standard) ensures that even if dropped in water, it remains functional. With a compact, rubberised grip, it’s easy to carry in wet and rugged conditions, whether the team is hiking, camping, or out at sea.

A Race for Good

The World’s Toughest Row is more than just a physical challenge—it’s an opportunity to make a lasting impact. The funds raised by Oars of Thunder will support the RNLI and their Platinum sponsor’s chosen charity, directly contributing to life-saving missions and community support.

Cobra Electronics is honoured to be a part of this incredible journey. Our advanced communication solutions will ensure that Oars of Thunder remains safe and connected as they push the limits of human endurance across the vast Atlantic.
